Love letters and other correspondence
Scope and Contents
The bulk of the letters in this series are from Tom Poor to Naomi Sparlin prior to their marriage and describe Poor's daily activities, namely his work with Greenlease Automotive and his participation in the Kansas City Athletics Club, and feelings toward Sparlin. Any letters not from Poor to Sparlin in the collection have been labeled by the sender's name.
Several letters encourage eugenics, which in the United States typically had the goal of eliminating undesirable genetic traits in the human race through selective breeding. There is also a get-well card that features a character in "Blackface," a popular U.S.-based entertainment based around stereotypical and racist portrayals of African Americans involving the use of Black face paint.
