Personal Journals, 1982 - 1999

 Series

Scope and Contents

Enoch’s journals focus on her relationships with her husband and children and personal development. She wrote detailed accounts of vacations and travel as well as vivid portraits of Jewish leaders and elders that inspired her. A running theme in Enoch’s journals is the notion of time slipping away and a yearning to devote more time to writing.

Hilda Enoch started her journals on what most English readers would consider the last page, so that pages are turned from left to right. The names of folders are derived from her titles and dates handwritten on the cardboard (back) cover of the notebooks. [Brackets] indicate that the folder title was created by Spencer staff.
