Biography of Eva Martin Blythe

Clementine Martin’s daughter Eva Louise Martin was born in Topeka, Kansas in January 1950 a few months after the death of her father, Eugene Martin. She went to school with the students involved in the Brown v. Board of Education landmark desegregation case. Martin graduated from the University of Kansas and worked for congressional representatives, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and the Council of State Community Affairs Agencies.

Eva Martin [Ennis] Blythe began her work with the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Kansas City, Missouri. She served as an executive director in the organization for nearly 30 years, in KCMO for 3 years and in in Oshawa, Canada for 15 years. She retired from from the Cambridge, Massachusetts YWCA as its executive director in 2020. She received numerous awards and championed the YWCA’s mission, “eliminating racism, empowering women.”
