Photographs [Mary Newton’s album]
Scope and Contents
A 5x6" leather bound, embossed album with “Photographs” written on the spine and bronze clasps, one of which is missing. On the inside cover “Mary E. Newton” is handwritten, indicating that the album may have belonged to Elizabeth Newton’s mother.
Labeled studio photographs and tintypes include Mary Newton, George Newton, Mary Ann Cluet Newton, and Elizabeth Wesley Newton, who married Charles Wesley DeWolf (possibly featured in an unlabeled photo). A photo from Keokuk, Iowa features a church building with a spire. Many photographs are unidentified.
Loose photos and tintype have been removed to folders at RH MS 1587.
