Biography of L. Camille Hébert (1959 - )
Leslie Camille Hébert was born in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph Pervis Hebert, Jr. (1928-2003) and Barbara Ellen Hébert (born 1931). Both her parents were from Louisiana, and Joseph served first in the Army and then in the Air Force, retiring as a colonel after 22 years.
Camille graduated from Manhattan High School in 1977 and went onto receive her bachelors in philosophy and political science from Kansas State University in 1979. She earned her JD from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1982, serving as editor-in-chief of the University of Kansas Law Review and receiving the Samuel Mellinger Leadership Award while working on her studies.
From 1982-1983 Hébert clerked for the Honorable James K. Logan with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in Olathe, Johnson County, Kansas. She thereafter entered private practice, focusing on labor and employment law and representing management with Spencer, Fane, Britt, and Browne in Kansas City from 1983-1988. In 1988 she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she teaches employment law at the Ohio State University (OSU) in the Moritz College of Law. From 1997-2000 she was associate dean for Academic Affairs at OSU's College of Law.
In 1983, L. Camille Hébert married Christopher Black McNeil (born 1955), son of Thomas John and Janet Elizabeth (Rose) McNeil. They have three children: Amanda, Caitlin, and Ian.
