Columba palumbus -- Common Wood Pigeon. Alternate name on piece: Palumbus torquata [Wood-pigeon, or cuchat] Quite different composition in published plate, and body color different. Another plate, of Columba palumbus by Edward Lear (Birds of Europe IV: 243), is clearly not derived from this. Calculations in bottom right corner. Artist's name(s): Gould, John; Richter, Henry Constantine.
