Dendrolagus inustus, 1856
Dates
- Creation: 1856
Physical Description
Paper unusually thin. 33 x 54cm pencil
General
Dendrolagus inustus -- Grizzled Tree-kangaroo [Brown tree-kangaroo] A fairly finished study of the animal, with a much smaller sketch of another. The main published figure follows the present form very closely; ". . . Not nearly the size of life" Artist's name(s): Gould, John; Richter, Henry Constantine. It doesn't look like Richter's usual style, but since Gould writes in the text that the drawing "was made by Mr. Richter, in the [Zoological] Society's Gardens" it may well be that working ab initio would lead to a less usual style.
