Very finished watercolor study of one animal, not very close in pose to the published plate, but with certain specifics of form similar; note in lower right corner: "Leyden. / Tail not so long as this in Paris specimen of female / legs also of a lighter yellow color, flanks more vinous / grey." Gould's text relates that the two animals in the plate were taken from specimens in the Paris and Leyden museums: are this and Gould item 744 supplied reference drawings? Artist's name(s): Richter, Henry Constantine.
