Sitta castanea -- Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch. Alternate name on piece: Parus castaneoventris [Chestnut-bellied tit]. Layout painting, foliage colored more carefully than birds; extensive erasure; 2 notes on color Artist's name(s): Gould, John; Richter, Henry Constantine. Several detailed changes to the foliage appear to have been sketched in by Gould, and the results incorporated in the published plate.
