Scope and Contents

Three 16x21" scrapbooks with "Scrap Book, University of Kansas Band, property of Russell L. Wiley" and the dates, 1936-37, 1937-38, 1940-41, embossed on the cover. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photographs, and posters and programs of performances.

In addition to the 1936-37 scrappbook, box 5 contains a folder of photocopies of 7 photos dating from 1930 through Wiley's retirement in 1974.

Box 6, along with the 1937-38 scrapbook, houses a folder with a 1953 series of cartoon sketches of Russell Wiley conducting the music camp band in Hoch Auditorium, created by Lucy McAllister when she was enrolled in Arvid Jacobson's "Cartooning" class at KU Art Camp. Sketches were all transferred to a single sheet of coquille paper, executed in Higgins black ink.

The 1940-41 scrapbook in box 7 has been treated for mold. Persons with respiratory health concerns are advised to wear gloves and a face mask when handling these materials.
