Transcribed from the G. W. Paddock diary, in holdings of the Kansas State Historical Society. At top of transcript's first page: Accession No. 1996-123.01, G. W. Paddock Diary. Transcribed by Mischa L. Enos, July & August, 1996.

Included in the transcript is the diary's additional 18-page memoir by Sophronia (Mrs. G. W.) Paddock, written at Rochester, New York in 1901, describing experiences of the Paddocks from 1857 to 1865 while living in Kansas. Included is her description of the attack on Lawrence by William Quantrill's guerrillas, August 21, 1863.
