Women's decade of history [timeline compiled by Christine Leonard], 1965 - 1972

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

The timeline follows groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the Office of the Dean of Women's Association of Women Students (AWS), the Commission for the Status of Women (CSW), and the Gay Liberation Front (GLF), among others. Robin Morgan, a speaker at the Minority Opinions Forum, inspired the February Sisters occupation of the East Asian building in 1972 which is covered in detail. The occupation successfully led to the granting of their demands for establishing an affirmative action office, free childcare, women's health care, free access to birth control, the creation of a women's studies department, and the appointment of a woman to upper administration. The February Sisters began the work to end gender-based wage disparities, which is ongoing.
