Mary A. Baldwin papers
Overview
Mary A. (Mrs. Elmer E.) Baldwin, resided in Horton, Kansas from 1887 until her death in 1933. These papers consist primarily of her business papers while living in Horton, including mortgages, deeds, and tax records. Included is a ledger of accounts for homes constructed from 1887 to 1889 by Elmer E. Baldwin and William Wagner. Several items which date to 1940 are those of James B. Baldwin, a son of Mary and Elmer Baldwin.

Biography of Mary A. Baldwin
Mary Anne (Thomas) Baldwin was born April 7, 1853 in Fairmont, West Virginia. When she was ten, her family moved to Allerton, Iowa. She married Elmer E. Baldwin on January 12, 1870. They resided in Woodford County, Illinois in the first years of their marriage, and then returned to Allerton. In December 1887, the Baldwins moved to the community of Horton in Brown County, Kansas, where Elmer Baldwin and William Wagner formed the residential construction partnership of Wagner and Baldwin. Elmer Baldwin died in 1893. Mary Baldwin remained a resident of Horton until her death in 1933.
