Gilbert H. Finlay scrapbooks and papers
Overview
This collection contains two scrapbooks that document the service of Augusta, Kansas resident Gilbert H. Finlay as Grand Sentinel and as Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Kansas, Order of the Eastern Star. Included are photographs, clippings, and programs from meetings of Kansas chapters attended by him in his official capacities from 1966 to 1969. In accompanying folders are texts of Grand Chapter ceremonies and letters concerning Mr. Finlay's 1989 election to the last degree of the Scottish Rite Masonry.

Biography of Gilbert H. Finlay
Gilbert Hamilton "Pat" Finlay was born March 26, 1913 in Osage County, Kansas to Thomas and Florence Finlay. He married Naoma Alcorn on September 8, 1934 in Osage County. In the early 1950s, they resided at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, then at Dodge City, Kansas, and in 1960 moved to Augusta, Kansas. The Finlays were members of chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star at each of these communities. Gilbert Finlay served as Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of Kansas, O.E.S. from 1966 to 1967. He and his wife then served as Worthy Grand Patron and Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Kansas. In October 1989, Mr. Finlay received the Supreme Council's Thirty-Third and last Degree of the Scottish Rite Masonry. He died on August 26, 2001 at Augusta.
