Biography of Hammond Family
Joseph C. Hammond was born in 1866 in Mississippi to Pascal and Elizzie Hammond. He married Mary Johnson, daughter of Alexander and Hannah Johnson and a Junction City, Kansas native; the couple had fourteen children. Joseph Hammond died in 1935; Mary died in 1946.
In 1928, Joseph and Mary's ninth child, Robert, married Verna Mae Johnson. Robert (1905-1978) and Verna Mae had six children: Robert, Sharon, Mervyn, Aletha, James, and Vernon. Mervyn Hammond (b. 1933) married Laurette Starnes in 1954; the couple had two children, Mervyn Jr. (b. 1955) and LaTrisha (b. 1964). Mervyn Jr. and Rose Mary (Walls) married in 1974 and have 10 children.
