History of the Juvenile Improvement Club
The organization called the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City was originally organized as the Juvenile Improvement Club in 1912 in response to a need for better services for young boys. The name of the organization was later changed to the Boys Club of Kansas City, which opened its first community-based site, the John T. Thornberry Boys and Girls Club, in 1935. The club admitted girls to full and equal membership in 1976, and the club's... name was changed to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas.
