Fair Mill and Elevator Company records
Overview
This collection consists of the business papers of the Fair Mill and Elevator Co. and Watkins National Bank, arranged chronologically. There are legal documents concerning the suit between the Kramer-Fair Milling Co. and the Watkins National Bank, with the rest of the material being the day-to-day paperwork between T.C. Green and J.R. Fair, who were involved in running the mill. The other files contain daily elevator reports, invoices, journal notes, notices of shipment, time vouchers, warehouse records, cancelled checks, a ledger, a journal and four blank Certificate of Stocks volumes.

History of the Fair Mill and Elevator Company
The Fair Mill & Elevator Company was located in Tonganoxie, Leavenworth County, Kansas. Originally the Kramer-Fair Milling Company, the owners borrowed money from the Watkins National Bank, which they were subsequently unable to pay back. In 1919-1920, the Kramer-Fair Mill brought suit against the Watkins National Bank, which the company lost, and the Watkins National Bank took over the mill.
The mill operated as the Fair-Hinshaw Milling Co. from 1924 with the Watkins National Bank holding title. Officially the bank could not manage the mill; therefore from 1926, the Bank Trustees were named the Mill Trustees, and the mill's name was changed to the Fair Mill and Elevator Co. T.C. Green, of the Watkins National Bank, was in charge of the financial management of the Mill. J.R. Fair, who had perviously been joint owner of the Kramer-Fair Milling Company, was the business manager. The bank took over management on June 30, 1926. The Watkins National Bank sold the property in 1928, but there is no information in this collection concerning the management after February 1927, or who it was sold to.
