Overview

The Environmental Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) was established by the Topeka, Kansas-based Menninger Foundation in 1965 as the Environmental Research Foundation. ERDF maintained offices at different times in Topeka; Kansas City, Missouri; and Tucson, Arizona. This collection of ERDF records primarily includes research files identified by subject, as well as some administrative files. Also included are papers of Edward T. Hall, Missouri-born anthropologist who is best known for his theories of proxemics, or the study of the nature, degree, and affect of spatial separation individuals maintain in social and interpersonal situations and how that separation relates to environmental and cultural factors.

Materials located at RH MS 913 are stored in the KU Annex off-site storage area.

All researchers interested in reviewing this material must consult Spencer Research Library staff (785-864-4334, 9-5 M-F CST) no less than three days in advance of a planned visit. Be advised that drop-in requests for this material cannot be accommodated.
