Melody Brown Memorial Fund records
Overview
The Melody Brown Memorial Fund was established in Topeka,Kansas, in 1974. Named for Melody Brown an artistically inclined child killed upon being struck by a drunk driver, the Fund instituted the Fun Factory of Arts program, which has offered arts education and programming for over 30 years. The collection consists of records of the Fund, including information on its founding, administration, and Fun Factory programming, as well as photographs and personal memorials addressed to the Brown family.

History of Melody Brown Memorial Fund
The Melody Brown Memorial Fund was established in 1974 as a "living memorial" to Melody Brown, the daughter of Rev. Frank J. and Fannie Brown of Topeka, Kansas, who was killed at age 6 when hit by a drunk driver. The Fund created the Fun Factory of Arts program in 1975. A 10-day program held twice yearly to further the talents of children who have an interest in music, theater or art, the Fun Factory has been successful for over 30 years

Scope and Contents
The collection is divided into three series: Records, Scrapbook, and Photographs. The Records series includes both administrative records of the Melody Brown Memorial Fund and programming records for the Fun Factory of Arts, 1972-1989. Records also includes a small amount of personal material attributable to Fannie Brown, which can be found at the end of the series. The Scrapbook series preserves the arrangement of the contents of a commemorative scrapbook, and is comprised of both original material as well as photocopies; original photographs from the scrapbook are housed separately at RH MS-P 455. Photographs includes an assortment of photographs of Melody Brown and her family, as well as the original photographs from the scrapbook.
