Biography of Edward F. Reilly (1937- )
Edward F. Reilly, Jr. was born and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. After receiving a bachelors of science in political science from the University of Kansas in 1961, he joined the family business and began a career in real estate insurance and banking.
Reilly served one year in the Kansas House of Representatives in the mid-1960s before successfully running for the Kansas State Senate. He remained in the state senate for 28 years, from the mid-1960s until 1992. A Republican, Reilly served in a variety of roles, including as chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs and of the Senate Insurance Committee, as well as vice chairman of the Senate Elections Committee and assistant majority leader.
After retiring from the state legislature, Reilly was appointed to the U.S. Parole Commission in 1992, serving as the commission's chairman from 1992-1997 and again in 2001.
