Biography of Dorothy Scott
Dorothy E. Scott was born 28 November 1912 in Topeka, Kansas. After graduating from Topeka High School she earned a Bachelor's degree from Washburn University in Topeka and a Master's degree from the University of Kansas. Scott taught in the Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Kansas City, Kansas, and Topeka, Kansas school systems. As a member of the National Education Association she was chosen to train African and European educators in West Africa.
Scott was an active member in many organizations, volunteering at such places as the Topeka Public and Shawnee County Library, the Kansas State Historical Museum, Let's Help, Inc, and the Stormont-Vail Foundation. She served on the boards of various organizations including: American University Women, Ywca, Children's Hour, and the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women. Scott was an active member of St. John Ame Church, serving as P.M. leader of the Grant's Women's Missionary Society and the Stewardess Board.
Dorothy and Edward A. Scott married in 1941. Dorothy E. Scott died 2 March 2002.
