Overview

The Louis R. Scott papers are those of a life-long Lawrence, Kansas resident who, during World War II, served as part of the Tuskegee Air Unit, later working for the U.S. Postal Service, and was an active member of the First Regular Missionary Baptist Church.

Biography of Louis R. Scott

Louis R. Scott was born on Jan 18, 1922 Lawrence, Kansas. In 1939, Scott graduated from Liberty High School. During World War II he served in the Air Force, specifically as part of the Tuskegee Air Unit. After the War, Scott worked for the University of Kansas (1948-1952) and the Hercules Powder, Co. (1952). He then began working for the US Post Office in 1952 where he remained until his Jan. 1978 retirement.

Scott was an active member of the community. He was a member of Lawrence's First Regular Missionary Baptist Church, where he both served as a deacon and sang in the men's choir.

Scott married Lucille Allen on June 25, 1948. The couple had two children: Louis R. Jr. and Ronald Lynn. Louis R. Scott died Jan 29, 1995; Lucille Scott died Nov 8, 2002.
