Scope and Contents
This journal was written by an unidentified farmer who came to Kansas in 1873, after purchasing land in central Mitchell County. It is recorded in The People's Comprehensive Diary, a printed blank-book sold by subscription with spaces provided for recording financial records, weather data, memoranda, other information deemed important enough for preservation.
The journalist disregarded the printed columns designed for recording specific information. Instead, his journal chronicles his activities and those of his family in classic diary of journal form. Financial data, social and familial memoranda, the weather, and the daily business of working his farm are noted and commented on. The exact location of the farm by legal description is provided on the fifth page of the journal text.
