Biography of Goldie Piper Daniels
Goldie Piper Daniels was born November 11, 1890 on a farm in Douglas County, Kansas. She attended a one-room Douglas County rural school and then attended high school at Lawrence, Kansas, and the Lawrence Business College. She married Charles E. Daniels on July 27, 1917. Mrs. Daniels was an artist who produced many marketed paintings. She was also employed as a teacher, worked in Washington, D.C.'s Bureau of Construction and Repair, and was a stenographer with the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas. At age 78, she began work on a book which was published in 1975 with the title Rural Schools and Schoolhouses of Douglas County, Kansas. The book was illustrated with reproductions of Mrs. Daniels' many pencil sketches of the county's rural schoolhouses.

A collection of Goldie Piper Daniels' original manuscripts, research notes, and correspondence related to her 1975 book, Rural Schools and schoolhouses of Douglas County, Kansas. Included are the author's many original pencil drawings of Douglas County schoolhouses, with which her book was illustrated. Included in the collection's research notes and background material are news clippings, memorabilia, and correspondence related to the rural schools of Douglas County, as well as photographic prints of various schoolhouses. The collection also contains a photograph of Daniels which was reproduced on the book's dust jacket.
