History of the Kansas Society of Architects
The Kansas Society of Architects was chartered in 1921. Now called the American Institute of Architects in Kansas (AIAKS), the state organization serves as a resource for its membership and its mission is to be the voice of the architectural profession in Kansas. There are currently three local sections in the Kansas chapter for the Manhattan, Wichita, and Topeka areas. The organization provides continuing education for architects and advocates on their behalf with the state legislature.

Scope and Contents
This collection comprises records relating to the membership, events, and administrative activities of the American Insitute of Architects in Kansas, formerly the Kansas Society of Architects. Included are administrative records, comprising committee minutes and related documents; conference materials, including preparatory documentation; board and executive committee minutes; honors and awards competition records; membership records and handbooks; AIAKS newsletters and publications; electronic awards entries; and interviews on audio cassette tapes.
The bulk of the collection is housed at RH MS 850. Oversize materials have been physically separated and are located at RH MS Q460, RH MS R455, and RH MS S63. Audiovisual materials have also been separated and are located at KC AV 84.
The original collection (boxes 1-18) was processed in the order it was received. Intellectual arrangement of these boxes was imposed during processing of the 2016 addition in 2019, and as a result this arrangement may not be entirely accurate. Additionally, materials related to a single topic may appear in multiple series.
