Lora McCune diary and Job Fletcher letters
Overview
Rosemary King is the granddaughter of Lora McCune, who immigrated to Kansas from Pennsylvania circa 1886, and C. S. (Charles Sumner) Nation. The couple settled in Chanute, Kansas where Nation served as teacher and postmaster. Job Fletcher, of Sagamon County, Illinois served on the Illinois state legislature with Abraham Lincoln. The connection between McCune and Fletcher (if any) is not apparent. This collection includes McCune's diary from 1886, as well as an assortment of letters to Fletcher, 1832-1870. There are several items where the author and addressee are unclear, including a letter concerning the National Whig party and a letter written to "My Dear Miss Jayhawker" from "Your Lone Star."
