History of the Lenexa United Methodist Church (Lenexa, Kan.)
The history of the Lenexa United Methodist Church of Lenexa, Kansas dates from the 1860s, when the church was known as the Methodist Episcopal Church of Lenexa. In 1869, a church class was organized at Lenexa, and services were held in a school house one half mile south of the community. The church's first building was erected in 1878 at 91st Street and Caenen Lake Road, where a new church building was completed in 1924 and where various building additions and improvements have continued through the years.

These official records of the Lenexa United Methodist Church (Lenexa, Kansas) include bound volumes in which are listed the names and dates of members received, transferred, and withdrawn, as well as names and dates of baptisms, marriages, and deaths in the period 1865 to 1929. The collection also contains minutes of the church's quarterly conferences from 1867 to 1934, identified first as the Lenexa Charge of the Leavenworth District in the Methodist Episcopal Church's Kansas Conference, and later as the Lenexa Charge of the Kansas City District.
A bound volume titled "Early Historical Record of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Lenexa, Kansas" contains some of the church's earliest records of members and quarterly conference minutes, prefaced by an account of the church's early history. Items found laid in two volumes are located in accompanying folders.
