Much of the correspondence is between Cletus J. Pottebaum, who was an officer from Illinois, and Eileen (McNamara) Pottebaum, who was a war bride from England. There is also quite a bit of correspondence from Cletus J. Pottebaum to his mother, Mrs. William J. Pottebaum of Teutopolis, Illinois. The collection also includes photographs, military and Veteran's Administration papers, clippings, pamphlets, etc.
These papers were used as the basis for a University of Kansas History Department honor's thesis by Johanna Maska, Cletus and Eileen Pottebaum's granddaughter.
