Conrad Vandervelde papers
Overview
Conrad Vandervelde (1879-1969) served as dean of the College of Emporia, 1916-1941, and served as pastor of the Sardis Congregational Church, Emporia, Kansas from 1943-1957. This collection contains sermons, records related to funerals, marriages, and other services performed during his pastoral career.

Biography of Conrad Vandervelde
Conrad Valdervelde was born on December 9, 1879 near Alto, Wisconsin, to Marten Vandervelde and wife Andriana De Swarte, both natives of the Netherlands.
He attended Hope College Academy; recieved and A.B. frin Ripon College in 1904, an M.S. from Princeton University, 1906, B.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary, 1907, and D.D. from Ripon College, 1919. Vandervelde taught at Hastings College, Nebraska, 1907-1909; Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri, 1909-1911.
He served The College of Emporia, Emporia, Kansas, from 1911-1941, as Dean from 1916 until his retirement. Vandervelde was Pastor of the Sardis Congregational Church in Emporia from 1943-1957.
He married Kate Annelia Cross on September 6, 1909 in Chanute, Kansas. Vandervelde died on June 7, 1969 and was buried in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
