Scope and Contents
These official records of the Wakarusa Township of Douglas County, Kansas, dating from 1858 to 1980, include the earliest records of the township when it was known as the Lawrence Township. The collection contains the township's rolls of voters, ballots, and election results prior to Kansas statehood, including tax rolls and township receipts and expenditures for such purposes as road and bridge construction and fire protection. Arrangement is in general by type of record (voter lists, road tax rolls, financial records, etc.), then arranged chronologically by year. An exception to this arrangement are the collection's bound ledgers of financial records and minutes, which are housed together in Box 10.
