Administrative History of Kansas Ornithological Society
The Kansas Ornithological Society (K.O.S.) was founded on April 19, 1949. The first meeting of the society, held on that date, was presided over by Dr. Charles G. Sibley, then assistant curator of birds at the Museum of Natural History, University of Kansas. The society is composed of persons interested in the science of ornithology, in providing and preserving bird habitats, and in observing and recording the activities, location, and migration of birds throughout the state. K.O.S. is governed by a council that includes the president of the organization, the vice-president, secretary, treasurer, editor, and four active members.
