Biography of Burton McCollum
McCollum graduated from KU in 1903 with a degree in electrical engineering. He held several jobs between 1903-1907, returning to the University in 1907 to teach in the School of Engineering for two years. In 1909 he began working in the Bureau of Standards, leaving in 1925 to become technical director of McCollum Geological Explorations. In 1932 he formed McCollum Laboratories, Inc. McCollum was a forerunner of geophysical oil prospecting and was awarded more than thiry patents in his lifetime. He died in 1964.
