Biography of John C. Belleville, died 1877?
John C. Belleville served as a lieutenant in Company B of the 2nd Tennessee Heavy Artillery Regiment (African Descent). In 1863 Company B was at Columbus, Kentucky. In April, 1864 the regiment was reorganized and became the 4th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery Regiment. After his service in the Civil War, Belleville in 1872 became a postal clerk in Della, Illinois. On May 15, 1874 he was appointed Postmaster at Downs, Illinois.
