Biography of Darlene Jenkins
Darlene Smith was born in 1922 to the Reverend Melvin James and Bessie Smith. After graduating from Sumner High School and the Sumner Division of the Kansas City, Kansas Junior College, Darlene worked as a teacher in various schools in Kansas City, Missouri. She retired from the Kansas City, Missouri School District in 1984. In 1951, Darlene married Gerald W.H. Jenkins, a WWII veteran and postal worker. The couple had five children: Cecil Henry, Gerald Jr, Charles, Linda, and Geraldine. Gerald Jenkins died 11 November 1994; Darlene followed on 10 April 2003.

The Darlene Jenkins papers date from 1936 to 1992 and are arranged in three series: Family Papers, Photographs and Oversize.
