Biography of Douglas Moore
Douglas Moore is an operatic composer who was commissioned by the University of Kansas to create an opera for its centennial celebration in 1966. The opera, "Carry Nation," was premiered at the University of Kansas on April 28, 1966. Moore won a Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for his "Giants in the Earth" and the New York Critics Circle Award in 1959 for the "Ballad of Baby Doe." Moore was a Rose Morgan visiting professor at the University of Kansas during the spring semester of 1966.
