The Stovall family were residents of Leavenworth, Kansas from the 1940s-1990s. The collection is comprised of material assembled by Gertrude Stovall and related to church organizations in Kansas and Washington state, as well as collected documents regarding family members, published material from the family library, and photographs.

History of the Stovall family

The Stovall family were residents of Leavenworth, Kansas from the 1940s-1990s. James Stovall served as a Baptist Reverend in Leavenworth, and the family as a whole were very involved with Baptist organizations throughout the Northeast Kansas region. James and Gertrude Stovall had eight children: Beatrice, James, Raymond, Robert, Chester, Dorothy, Kenneth, and Charles. Beatrice, James, Raymond, and Robert passed away during childhood.

Scope and Contents

The collection has been arranged into five series: Church material, Family papers, Stovall family library, Photographs, and Oversize material.

The first series, Church material, documents the family's involvement in the Baptist Church throughout northeast Kansas and Washington State through church bulletins, programs, and missionary literature.

The Family papers series includes announcements of family events, clippings and articles, and assorted records; where possible, items have been attributed to the appropriate individual.

The Stovall Family Library series consists of religious and theological texts, listed in bibliographic format.

Photographs have been physically separated from the manuscript materials and are located at RH MS-P 673. Oversize textual materials have also been physically separated and are located at RH MS Q141.
