History of the Lawrence Human Relations Commission
The Human Relations Commission is an advisory body to the Lawrence City Commission, consisting of nine members who work to eliminate discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing in Lawrence, Kansas. It was established by Chapter X of the City Code and Ordinance No. 6522.
Some of the commission's activities have included studying the problem of discrimination and any other matter which may have an adverse impact on community relations and promoting good will and cooperation among diverse ethnic groups and other elements of the population of Lawrence, Kansas. The commission may also solicit, receive, and accept funding for relevant programs, in addition to advising and supporting the City Commission.
