History of Kappa Kappa Iota.
Kappa Kappa Iota, a national sorority for women teachers, had its origins in December 1921, when a group of public school and college teachers met at Stillwater, Oklahoma. In 1922, the group obtained a state charter from Oklahoma, and in 1931 designated Kappa Kappa Iota as its name. The sorority was nationalized in April 1949. When Kappa Kappa Iota's Kansas chapter formed, it was named the Gamma State Conclave. In 1958, a local chapter was instituted at Lawrence, Kansas, called the Nu Conclave. A few years later, a Lawrence chapter called the Rho Conclave was also formed. In April 1996, the two chapters merged.

This collection contains records of the Lawrence, Kansas chapters (the Nu Conclave and the Rho Conclave) of Kappa Kappa Iota, a national sorority for women teachers. Included are Lawrence chapter minutes, scrapbooks, and directories dating from 1958 to 2000. The collection also contains the constitution, by-laws, and annual directories (1957/1958 to 1999/2000) of Kappa Kappa Iota's Gamma State (Kansas) Conclave, as well as three 1932-1933 journal issues of the Theta Sigma Epsilon sorority.
