Gladys M. Burks papers
The Gladys M. Burks papers are those of a lifelong Kansas City, Kansas resident whose father worked for the City Ice Company and who was, herself, a social worker and an active Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) member. The collection includes documents related to Mrs. Burks' employment with the Kansas City School District and Kansas Civil Service, her mentorship activities, newspaper clippings collected by Mrs. Burks, as well as various civic and church handouts and flyers, and materials documenting the histories of the Stewart-Madison family and of Odevia M. Stanton.

Biography of Gladys M. Burks
Gladys M. Gilford was born circa 1911 to the George Gilford family. She married, becoming Gladys Burks. Burks was an active member of the Kansas City, Kansas Young Women's Christian Association. Gladys M. Burks died March 6, 2002.

Scope and Contents
The Gladys M. Burks Collection dates from 1900 to 1988 and consists of a yearbook, newspaper clippings, flyers and brochures, hand written papers, correspondence, photocopies, and photographs. The papers, located at RH MS 1376, are arranged thematically then chronologically. The oversize newspapers, located at RH MS Q408, are arranged by size. The photographs, located at RH MS-P P841, are arranged alphabetically.
