History of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (Dava), Jayhawk Chapter 22
In 1922, a group of women founded the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) to help care for not only veterans but also their dependents and survivors. The DAVA, Jayhawk Chapter #22, was given a charter July 1, 1950 and was first instituted November 17, 1951. Working in close contact with the national Disabled American Veterans organization, the Auxiliary chapters assist veterans and their families by assuring that they get the benefits to which they are entitled, monitoring legislation to improve their benefits, volunteering at medical facilities and recruiting other volunteers, providing transportation, and providing interest-free education loans to qualified applicants. Auxiliary chapters rely solely upon dues and other contributions of their members to fund their activities.

Scope and Contents
This collection includes history scrapbooks for most years between 1950 and 2001. These scrapbooks contain correspondence, clippings, certificates and awards, photographs, meeting programs, and lists of members. The minutes of chapter meetings also contain membership rosters and financial information and run from the first meeting in November 1951 through 2001.
