Biography of Edward I. Shaw (1927-2017)
Edward Irwin Shaw was born January 17, 1927 in Long Island, New York to Daniel and Edna "Etta" (Bath) Shaw. He received his Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Missouri and received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.
In 1956, Shaw joined the faculty of the University of Kansas Department of Radiation Biophysics, where he taught courses in radiation biophysics, human physiology, and chemotherapy. He also served as chair of the department for ten years, and as Director of Summer Institutes for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the National Science Foundation.
Shaw's research focused on the changes in cell function induced by radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and other environmental factors. Dr. Shaw retired from the University in 1996.
