Biography of Eugene Stephenson
Dr. Eugene A. Stephenson served as a faculty member for the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Kansas. He was married to C. Florence Stephenson, and they had one son, Robert and one daughter, Maya. Stephenson was an active member of the Rotary Club, which he joined in 1932, and was the speaker for the 41st anniversary celebration in Lawrence in 1955. In 1959, he was awarded the John Franklin Carll Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Eugene and Florence were very involved in attending musical productions, and their fund continues to support chamber music at the Lied Center at the University of Kansas.

Scope and Contents
The personal papers of Eugene A. Stephenson are mainly comprised of the correspondence and business relationship between the Stephensons and Paul and Lois Howard. The records indicate the Stephensons loaned the Howards money to pay off their mortgage and again for personal matters. The families remained in contact and wrote extensively to each other regarding finances as well as other subjects such as job status, family, and daily life. The collection includes the exchange of handwritten and typed letters, newspaper articles, and photos of the Stephenson house in Lawrence, Kansas.
