Biography of Roy Laird

Roy D. Laird was born in Blue Hill, Nebraska in 1925. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946 and later received his bachelor's degree in biology from Hastings College in 1947. In 1952 he finished his master's degree from the University of Nebraska and in 1956 received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Washington. Laird came to KU from the Central Intelligence Agency and was internationally recognized for his work in the field of Soviet agriculture. He joined KU's Department of Political Science in 1957 and retired as professor emeritus in 1990. Laird's achievements include various international research grants, the founding of the International Conference on Soviet and East European Agriculture at KU, and other well-known published books and articles. He died in 2000.

The collection includes a copy of the book written jointly by Betty and Roy Laird on the life and works of Naum Jansy. This includes Jansy's studies of Soviet agricultural affairs and economic research. The rest of the collection includes correspondence related to the writing of the book and letters and notes from Jansy. There are also book reviews regarding the written biography.
