Biography of Carol Shankel
Carol Shankel is the author of Sallie Casey Thayer and Her Collection, a biography of the woman whose gift of art to the University of Kansas in 1917 established the art museum. She is the co-compiler of On the Hill: A Photographic History of the University of Kansas, and three books in a "biography of a building" series: Old Fraser; Dyche Hall; and Spooner Hall. Carol worked for the Spencer Museum of Art on the University of Kansas' campus in public relations and as a managing editor of publications.
Shankel was a leader in the founding of Historic Mount Oread Friends, and the Lawrence Sister Cities program. She has served on the board of the KU Biodiversity Institute. She is married to Del Shankel, Emeritus Professor of Microbiology and Chancellor Emeritus.
