History of the Smoky Hill River Missionary Baptist District Association

In response to a resolution by the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Kansas, the Smoky Hill River Missionary Baptist District Association was formed on June 12, 1904. Its membership is composed of African American churches and individuals located within the Smoky Hill River basin of Kansas.

The objective of the association, as stated in its constitution, is to promote the preaching of the gospel, to establish churches in the district, and to cooperate with the state convention in the work of missions and education throughout the state and nation.

Eventually, the original name was considered too lengthy and was shortened to the Smoky Hill District Association. The organization held its Centennial Session on August 4-7, 2004.
