Franklin C. Shontz was an expert in psychology, teaching and conducting research at the University of Kansas from 1960-1992. This collection contains proofs and manuscripts, course materials, correspondence, research data and grant administrative documentation, and experiment information related to Shontz's career.

Biography of Franklin C. Shontz

Franklin Curtis Shontz was born on December 9th, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII, after which he received his B.S. in 1950, his M.A. in 1953, and his Ph.D. in 1955, all from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Shontz joined the faculty of the University of Kansas in 1960 as a professor of psychology, reaching full Professor status in 1966. His main academic interests were in somatopsychology and rehabilitation psychology, or the study of the psychological impact of a disease or disability, and quantitative analysis. He retired in 1992 and thereafter served as a consultant for Resource Development Institute in Kansas City, Mo.

Shontz married Nancy Kimball in 1954. They lost a son early in life, Rand, and had three other children, Jennifer, Sally (Shontz) Fiske, and K. Curtis. Franklin C. Shontz passed away August 6th, 2015.
