Biography of John Laurence Day (1934- )
John Laurence Day (professionally, J. Laurence Day; personally, Larry Day) was born in Idaho in 1934. After earning a B.A. (1959) and M.A. (1963) in Journalism from Brigham Young University and a PhD (1966) in Journalism from the University of Minnesota, Day worked as a professor of journalism at the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas from 1966-1988.
Day has won three senior U.S. Fulbright University lectureships (Argentina 1974, Colombia 1980, Colombia 1997) and was the director of a $420,000 anti-drug project for the U.S. Department of Education from 1989-1991. He received emeritus status at the University of West Florida in 2001, where he taught for many years before retiring. Day worked extensively in South and Central America throughout his career, giving lectures and workshops on journalism. He has published books, including Careers for Foreign Language Aficionados and Other Multilingual Types (2001) and Day Dreaming: Tales from the Fourth Dementia (2012).
