Scope and Contents

Most of the documents are military and concern the administration of the Regiment. Reports of ordnance and supplies are most numerous and detailed. Military correspondence and orders also refer to the activities of the Regiment, ranging from recruitment to the defense of Chattanooga and the Holsten River bridge, guard duty at a Rebel prison, investigation of racial conflict in the Dandridge vicinity, discipline of soldiers for card playing, and the court martial of John A. Shannon, Colonel of the Regiment, for alleged sexual harassment.
