Biography of Nicholas Comberford
Nicholas Comberford was a member of the Thames School of chartmaking, based out of the sign of the Platt in the west end of the School House, Ratliffe, England, and was a member of the Drapers' Company. He claimed to have been born in Ireland. He completed his 8-year apprenticeship with John Daniel in 1620 and thereafter created maps of European locations and of at least the North Carolina coast in the New World, though he is not known to have visited North America. Comberford's apprentices included his son Thomas, Andrew Welch, and John Burston. Comberford died in 1673.
