1 volume : Spine title: Journal Astronomique de ma Campagne dans L'Inde 1787-1790. 133 leaves single sheets tipped into blank book. Binding: Late 18th or early 19th century leather. Original paper covers (diapered with trefoils in blue and red on white) bound in. Ornamentation: Leaf 1: sketch of ship; leaf 4 v: sketch of woman in red crayon; leaves 12, 122-129: formerly held sketches of persons and animals.The material is paper. ; 21.5 x 16 cm.

Scope and Contents
Entries are dated. The first few leaves in the volume include the poem "L'hiver," double-column headed by an ink sketch of a ship. The verso of the 4th leave in the volume includes a sketch in red crayon of a woman and the name "Cotignon" twice.
Leaves 5-11 contain ""Journal Astronomique de ma campagne dans l'Inde" and date from April 1787 to February 25, 1790. The following leaf had a picture attached, which is no longer there.
The following pages, the bulk of the volume, contain the draft: Brouillon de mes voyages dans l'Inde et ailleurs. Journal de ma campagne dans l'Inde. This section includes background dating from June 1786 to March 1787, the voyage itself from April 2, 1787 to February 26, 1790, and the voyage's aftermath dating from 1790 to 1796.
The last few leaves in the book include captions for 8 sketches (no longer in the volume when acquired by Spencer Research Library); "Remarques sur la Cafrerie et le Cap"; and "Noms des lieus ou j'ai eté, dans mes voyages."
